چکیده

The fission fragments and heavy ions tracks in CR-39 detectors registered by Cf-252 radioactive source have been observed by using photo-spectrometric techniques. CR39 detectors were exposed at 5 cm distance from radioactive source for registering nuclear tracks created by nuclear particles emitted from Cf-252 radioactive source. Cr-39 detectors were etched in 6N NaOH solution at 70 C for 400 minutes in the intervals between 20 to 25 minutes. The etching properties of CR-39, irradiated by ultra violet radiation has been examined. In un-etched condition, it is found that the transmittance is nearly 95% and in etched condition the transmittance decreases up to 72% due to the change in track densities inside CR-39 foils.

Examination of fragment dose contribution in heavy ion radiotherapy.

Heavy-ion radiotherapy is an efficient method for the treatment of deep-seated tumors, because the stopping of ions in a tissue delivers the maximal absorbed dose to the tumor-affected areas with minimal damage to the healthy tissues. However, heavy ions can undergo nuclear reactions, giving products with lower Z-values and hence a longer range in the tissue. This causes a dose increase beyond ...

Detection of DNA damage in individual cells induced by heavy-ion irradiation with an non-denaturing comet assay.

Investigating the biological effects of high-LET heavy-ion irradiation at low fluence is important to evaluate the risk of radiation in space. It is especially necessary to detect radiation damage induced by a precise number of heavy ions in individual cells. We thus compared the number of ions traversing a cell and the DNA damage produced by ion hits. We applied a comet assay to measure the DN...

Track detection on the cells exposed to high LET heavy-ions by CR-39 plastic and terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT)

Background: The fatal effect of ionizing radiation on cells depends on Linear Energy Transfer (LET) level. The distribution of ionizing radiation is sparse and homogeneous for low LET radiations such as X or γ, but it is dense and concentrated for high LET radiation such as heavy-ions radiation. Material and Methods: Chinese hamster ovary cells (CHO-K1) were exposed to 4 Gy Fe-ion 2000 keV/...

Generation and Application of Energetic Heavy Ion and X-ray via 12tw50fs Laser-solid Interaction

Energetic ions and ultrashort X-rays were generated by an intense ultrashort laser interacting with a copper target. Fast ions up to 3 MeV were observed with CR-39 nuclear track detector sheets when 7 TW laser was used. Cu ∼ Cu ions with the energy from 50 keV to 220 keV were detected with a Thomson parabola detector in the case of the laser power of 2.5 TW. Time-resolved X-ray diffraction was ...

Effect of Annealing on Track Density in Unirradiated and Gamma Irradiated Cr-39 When Used for Fast Neutron Detection*

The effect of annealing on track density in unirradiated CR-39 and gamma irradiated CR-39 neutron detectors was investigated. One group of CR-39 detectors (25.4 x 12.7 x 0.635 mm) was irradiated with 1.3 kGy of 6oCo gamma rays. The other group of detectors was not irradiated with gamma radiation. The two sets of detectors were then annealed at temperatures ranging from room temperature (2OOC) t...
